American Prayer

Lyrics by Dave Stewart and Bono.
With inspiration from Dr Martin Luther King.

This is my American Prayer
This is my American Prayer

This is the time to finish what you started
And this is no time to dream
This is the room
We can turn off the dark tonight
Maybe then we might see

American Prayer
American Prayer

And this is the ground
That keeps our feet from getting wet
And this is the sky over our head
And what you see depends on where you stand
And how you jump will tell you where you’re gonna land

American Prayer
American Prayer

My oh my
Couldn’t get much higher
Lets not kick out the darkness
Make the light brighter

And these are the hands
What are we gonna build with them?
This is the church you can’t see
Give me your tired, your poor and huddled masses
You know they’re yearning to breathe free
This is my American Prayer
American Prayer
American Prayer

When you get to the top of the mountain
Will you tell me what you see
If you get to the top of the mountain
Remember me

Get rick quick

So today we’re taking the 5pm bus back to KL. Am excited to check out the samples but also a little nervous at what we’re going to see. Plus, I haven’t packed yet.

At the GSSACPH

GSS brochure

Overheard at the GSSACPH (Great Singapore Sale Advertising Campaign Planning Headquarters):

– What the news on our latest campaign?

– Well sir, our line ‘This item is not on sale. But just about everything else is at the Great Singapore Sale’ is definitely working for us, sir.

– Good. Have tourist arrivals increased?

– Yes sir. Up 38% from China, up 24% from Johor.

– Excellent. And how is the domestic campaign coming along? Are we getting support from the government?

– Sir, all the cabinet ministers are refusing to wear our campaign t-shirts …

– What?!

– Our … our… our men have been trying to persuade them for weeks …

– This is unacceptable.

– This morning, MM Lee even sent out a memo saying ministers are strongly discouraged from wearing t-shirts with the slogan ‘This item is not for sale.’

– And what about pastors, priests and other heads of religion?

– Sir, they very kindly refused.

– What about Orchard Towers?

– Good news sir, we’ve had tremendous success in that area! For some reason, men in fedora hats, fur coats and plenty of bling all want our t-shirts. They say it helps drive up business.

– Good.

– Except nobody can explain why they want to help us so much, sir. Suffice to say, we’re printing an extra 100,000 for them.

– Carry on, then.

The Great Singapore Sale is on from now till 26 July. Happy shopping!

Product placement

Store Manager: Alright guys, we need a place to display our kitchen utensils. You knows, knives, forks, ice picks, and other really sharp objects. Any ideas?

Guy who was hired because dad owns the store: Uh … well, how about near the toys department? I don’t know – I can help clear the shelves.

Store Manager: Superb idea!

Others in the room: (Various people speaking) Yeah! Let’s do it. Why didn’t I think of that? I’ll help. Count me in. Me too!

(Everybody high five each other and proceed to clear the shelves near the toys department. Textbooks and other stationeries are moved to somewhere near the vegetable section).

They prayed a lot for one another. Most were touched by the Lord's spirit.

Blogging at ADOI

Have been invited to blog at ADOI – a Malaysian magazine about advertising. Ham (the publisher) has obviously mistaken me for somebody else. But until he realises this, you can read my post here. This will probably only make sense to advertising folks …
